Avast has provided the following statement to us:īack in October, Wladimir Palant, developer of the popular AdBlock Plus browser extension, published a blog post outlining how extensions from security company Avast/AVG were collecting massive amounts of data from users.Therefore, it is going to be available to current users.
It is to be also noted that the major web browsers have only removed the browser extensions but not blocked the security products.
They have also rationalized the data collection activity by claiming that this would not impact their users since they retain the data anonymously. While no official response from Google has been received so far, Avast did admit gathering user data however, they have justified it by claiming that they need the data for advertisement purposes.
